Hoopla!

Hoopla was a programme of responsive, child-led creative play sessions for recently-arrived children and their families who were living in temporary accommodation hotels in Birmingham. It was delivered in partnership with Birmingham Settlement and supported by Birmingham City Council.

The project took place in July and August 2023, offering music, drama and craft activities alongside time to play freely in safe natural spaces and chances for participants to develop and express their individual creative talents. We provided nutrition support, transport and instruments to children taking part in each of the 7 sessions. The final session was a community Summer Welcome Afternoon where participants joined local people in trying out a range of different creative activities provided by our many brilliant partners and generous volunteers, and included instrumental performance, singing and dancing from children who’d taken part in the process.
