An interactive musical play for young audiences

FLEX FLYER: Free family fun at Glue Garden: Theatre, music and crafts!

3 Brummie teenagers stand silhouetted on the precipice of a sparkly gold Vortex against a sparkly deep blue sky. There are other planets in iridescent shades which have text on (all text is included on this page)

Long-lost friends Fresh, Float and Fidget are sucked through The Vortex into FLEX, a game like no other.

Join our team of specialist Spell Coders to help our heroes complete the FLEX dimensions, defeat the Final Boss and unlock Treasure Kingdom.

An open-air musical adventure with a live band and plenty of chances to join in the fun. It’s time to play…

A young white woman and a young South Asian woman wear shiny green, blue and gold insect outfits with pearlescent sequins, bug-eye goggles and antennae, against a background of a textured gold disc surrounded by digital sky.

Parents who’ve already seen FLEX said:

FLEX is an outdoor performance, in Birmingham’s beautiful green community spaces. Some mats will be provided but please bring a blanket or camping chairs to sit on if possible.

We hope the weather stays fine for your visit, but please check the forecast and come prepared!

We don’t plan to stop the performance due to rain, except in extreme circumstances, so it’s a good idea to bring waterproof clothes and an umbrella if the forecast suggests any chance of drizzle.

We hope the sun will be shining, but please remember that there will be limited shelter or shade available, so on very hot days, do consider bringing sun cream, soft drinks and a hat as well!

Assistance dogs are welcome.

This show is outside to support clinically vulnerable families to join us too. Mats are moveable so you can choose to sit away from others if you need to. Basic refreshments are provided outside and you don’t need to walk through a building to reach the performance space.

Cloud Cuckoo Land is a neurodiverse ensemble: FLEX aims to be enjoyable for both neurodivergent and neurotypical children. It includes acoustic music and some amplified beats (which have been ok’d by ND company members with Sensory Processing issues). Children are encouraged to move, dance and make noise at lots of points during the show. All of our performances are relaxed: we love you to get involved and have fun! Shushing is not encouraged.

An accessible toilet is available, but is inside the attached building at the far end. There is not a hoist available.

The space has stepfree access, but there is uneven ground and there are some flexible plants which spread into the edges of the path (eg. tall grasses).

A small number of chairs will be available for disabled patrons – if you require these please let us know if possible so we can ensure we have enough.

We can provide some images of the site if it’s helpful to you.

We are committed to making our events accessible for everyone to attend so please let us know if there is anything we can do to ensure the event is accessible for you. Some of our shows will be BSL interpreted and audio described, please see individual show listings. If you wish to speak to someone about access please email access@curiosityproductions.co.uk or text/WhatsApp or call 07376 020819.

FLEX is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England. The project is also supported by the Sir Barry Jackson Trust, Birmingham and Black Country Wildlife Trust, Martineau Gardens, Curiosity Productions, The Parakeet, Growing Up Green and Birmingham 2022 Festival as part of FLOW Children’s Biennial.

With additional thanks to Birch Network, Hodge Hill Arts Forum, St Wilfred’s Catholic Primary School and Castle Bromwich Hall Gardens for supporting workshops with children who speak English as an additional language, which have informed the creation of the play.

FLEX is available to book now, with a few dates available in Autumn 2022, and for a tour in Spring/ Summer 2023.
